MAHLE Powertrain, grew out of the Cosworth Engineering company, founded in 1958. Audi AG acquired the business in 1998 and it was renamed as Cosworth Technology. The ownership then transferred to MAHLE GmbH in 2005 when MAHLE Powertrain was formed at its Northampton headquarters, the company opened the new Vehicle Engineering Centre in 2016, a new Vehicle Development Centre in 2018, a battery test facility in 2020 and a new Battery Development Centre in 2022. MAHLE Powertrain also operates from several other engineering facilities in Germany, USA and China.

In November 2023, Potenza were asked to become a potential supplier to MAHLE Powertrain’s involvement in the Advanced Propulsion Centre (supported by DFT and Innovate UK) through the Advanced Route to Market Demonstrator Competition 2 (ARMDC2) programme. The project was created to develop a fully electric three wheeled Motorcycle, from White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC) to serve the requirements of police, emergency first responders and last-mile delivery fleets. The Yamaha Tricity 300’s ICE engine will be replaced with a full electric powertrain, supported by the Potenza BMS.
