OX was founded in 2013 by the Norman Trust Charity, which commissioned Professor Gordon Murray to design the original Ox truck. Four experimental prototypes were made of the diesel OX.

In 2020, OX Delivers was established to create a scalable business model that supports the transition to electric vehicles in emerging markets. The OX truck has been redesigned by the OX team and is now on its 2nd generation fully-electric model. OX has been awarded multiple grants from Innovate UK, the Advanced Propulsion Centre, and the Royal Association of Engineering.
